Benin Itinerary at a Glance

  • Wezon! Welcome! Arrive at Cotonou or Lomé airport and be greeted by your Wademba drivers. Upon arrival at the villa, Residence Sahoty, enjoy a light dinner before bed.

  • Enjoy breakfast by our private chef, then take the morning to relax and unpack. In the afternoon, we visit the local sites of Grand Popo, our home base for the remainder of the trip.

  • We take our first full-day excursion to the Royal Palaces of Abomey, the UNESCO World Heritage site depicted in The Woman King.

  • We take a leisurely boat ride to Bouche du Roy, where the Mono River meets the Atlantic Ocean. We return to Grand Popo in time for a local folklore performance.

  • The most poignant day of the tour is a full-day excursion to Ouidah, which was one of the busiest slave ports of the transatlantic slave trade.

  • We take a walking tour of Possotomé village on Lake Ahémé and learn about local vodoun culture. Later, enjoy a surprise workshop back at Residence Sahoty!

  • We travel to Ganvié, the largest town built on stilts in Africa, for a boat tour. In the 17th century, people fleeing enslavement settled in Ganvié.

  • Before your departure flight, spend the day seeing the sites and shopping in Cotonou, Benin’s largest city. Bon voyage et à bientôt !

  • We require a $500 non-refundable deposit to reserve your spot on one of our tours. The balance is due 120 days prior to your tour’s departure date unless otherwise stated. Go to our booking page, select your tour, pay the deposit and we will hold your spot. You can view our complete booking policy including cancellation penalties here.

  • Depending on your citizenship(s), you may need a visa to visit Benin. For example, USA, UK and EU citizens all require visas. Please visit https://evisa.bj/ for more information on Benin entry visas.

  • You can fly into either Cotonou, Benin (COO) or Lomé, Togo (LFW). Please note that if you fly into Lomé, you may need an additional entry visa for Togo depending on your citizenship(s).

  • You can plan to arrive at any time on Day 1 of the tour and we will arrange an airport transfer for you. Our first scheduled group activities are planned for Day 2.

  • Once you arrive in Benin, we take care of everything! Our tours offer virtually all-inclusive pricing once you arrive in Benin. You should plan to bring money for any souvenirs you wish to buy and personal purchases/incidentals.

  • Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required for travel to Benin. Your doctor may recommend other standard travel vaccinations as well.

    As of 2023, all areas of Benin are at risk for malaria. Your doctor will likely recommend prescription anti-malarial medication. Please consult your doctor or travel clinic to determine the right medication for you.

  • All Benin tours are based in Grand Popo, with guests staying at the oceanfront villa, Residence Sahoty. There are 6 guest rooms, each with their own bathroom, a private chef and salt-water pool.
